Sarus Crane

The tallest flying bird in the world.

Conservation Status:

Vulnerable The max height of Sarus Crane can be up to 6 feet and the wingspan during flight is 8 feet.

The Sarus cranes are known to pair for life.  both male and female participate in raising the chicks.

You can recognize a Sarus crane from a distance due to their height. They mostly live in wetland and marsh lands. The Sarus crane is state bird of Uttar Pradesh.

This is a juvenile crane. They grow fast and live with the parents for one year or next breeding season.

You will find the Sarus cranes in wetlands and the farm lands around the wetland area. They are omnivorous and eat wide variety of foods from seed to snakes.

Sarus crane can also be found near human habitat .

Sarus crane are symbol of love, faithfulness and fortune and considered a sacred bird.

Call of the Sarus crane is like a trumpet and loud. They call and dance together to affirm the trust, on intrusion or changing the guard for the chicks.

In flight you can feel the power when they flutter the wings and fly past you.
