Indian Pitta

The nine colors of India Pitta are displayed when it fluffs.  Nine colors:  brown, black, white, green, blue, orange, pink, red, buff.

They feed on the ground by picking up insects and other small invertebrates from  the ground or under the leaf  litter.

The call of Pitta is very fascinating which is a two note whistle sound they make by having their head in upright position.

India Pitta makes the nest using dry-leaves and grasses on low branches. They are territorial in nature.

India Pitta breeds in north part of India during summer and moves to southern part when the chicks are able to fly.

Indian pitta is a favorite among the bird watchers and bird photographers. You will find them foraging on the ground, hopping and picking food.
